PROTONE

Protone is a progressive rock band formed by three songwriting multi-instrumentalists: Maarten, Otto-Chris and Bertil. Although the name Protone is relatively new, the musical partnership between the three musicians dates back to 2016, when they first joined forces to record The Emptiness Outside Of Me, the Kingfisher album. What started as a collaboration quickly evolved into a lasting creative partnership.

The true strength of Protone lies in the chemistry between its members. Each musician has a genuine admiration for the others’ abilities, and every idea is met with openness and respect. With no egos competing for attention, the creative process remains remarkably natural. Whenever one of them feels that a musical direction isn’t quite right, the band talks it through until they find a solution everyone believes in. Somehow, they always do.

That mutual trust is reflected in Protone’s music. All three musicians bring decades of experience and an exceptionally broad range of musical influences. The result is a distinctive sound where progressive rock meets strong melodies, atmospheric arrangements, technical musicianship and emotional depth.

Sometimes all it takes is a single moment for everything to fall into place. For Protone, that moment came during a live performance that made one thing painfully clear: talent alone wasn’t enough. The band needed direction. It needed a purpose. And above all, it needed an album.

That experience became the catalyst for change. Together with the new compositions Capriccio and The Edge Of The Sun, it inspired the band to focus on creating a full-length album.

The result is The Edge Of The Sun, ProTone’s debut album, scheduled for release at the end of 2026. And while the first album has yet to reach listeners, ideas for its successor are already taking shape. For Protone, this debut is not the destination; it is the beginning of the journey.
