Maarten was born in Amsterdam in 1964. After a carefree childhood he began his study Medicine at Amsterdam University (AMC). Unfortunately that didn’t turn out the way he hoped and expected.
Different periods as truckdriver, security agent, journalist abroad, system engineer and independent entrepeneur followed.
He was immediately caught by Queen the first time he saw ‘Killer queen’ on TV.
His first singles were ‘This town ain’t big enough’ from the Sparks and Peter Gabriel’s ‘Solsbury hill’.
Odd-time signatures are in the blood apparently. Lots of metal (NWOBHM), fusion (George Duke, Steely Dan), funk (George Clinton, Earth, Wind & Fire) followed. But also pop, dance (Prodigy, Faithless) and classical music. Esp. Russian composers (Prokofjev, Sjostakovich) appeal to him.
His record player was permanently occupied by ‘Unleashed in the East’, ‘Strangers in the night’ and ‘Rainbow on stage’.
That inspired him to pick up the guitar at 17. Through the years he developed himself to be a steady rhythm guitarplayer, as well as a flamboyant lead guitarist.
Two Buck Chuck was one of the first serious bands he had the pleasure joining. Until January 2017 he played guitar and backing vocals in the progressive metalband Synergy Protocol.
The highly acclaimed debut-CD from 2016 is called ‘Odd to get even’.
Later that year he also featured on the CD-debut from Kingfisher, called ‘The emptiness outside of me’.
As a side project he released 3 distinctive CD’s under his alias Haigreen.
